Montgomery College is seeking to hire a full-time Broadcast IT Engineer to work in the College's MCTV department. Work hours are typically between 9:00 am-5:30 pm Monday-Friday with some evening/weekend hours required depending on the need. This position is a bargaining, non-exempt, grade 31 position. Position is located in Rockville, Maryland.
Under supervision and/or direction, incumbent in this position will coordinate and facilitate all studio operations for a broadcast television production facility, maintain and operate related equipment and software including remote equipment for television and possibly other mediums. The incumbent will assist faculty, staff and students in the operation of equipment and will perform at a level of proficiency to ensure that programs are broadcasted on time and with a high quality of sound and image.
Contacts and interaction vary and may involve multiple constituents such as interaction with the campus administrative team, faculty, colleagues, managers, directors, students, vendors, contractors, and consultants.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Maintain and operate head end master control center equipment and software.
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance to component or board level identifying and preparing for depot level (manufacturer) repair and replacement.
- Work with MCTV production, programming, and engineering staff to identify problems.
- Coordinate with the College’s IT and facilities staff, MCTV vendors and equipment manufacturers to prepare circuit requirements for televised events and to maintain system integrity.
- Exercise foresight to identify and prevent issues.
- Configure, maintain, and operate video over IP transmission systems for broadcast operations.
- Maintain and operate computer servers using secured shell terminal over the local network.
- Configure, maintain, and operate networked storage technologies, broadcast automation, digital and linear playout technologies, preproduction, and post-production technologies across multiple OS (Windows, Mac, Linux).
- Familiarity with various video and audio compression technologies for live production and distribution.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree in communications electronics technology or IT Systems Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience and/or any combination of education, training and experience providing understanding of the field and the ability to perform the duties of the job.
- Knowledge of broadcast and IT infrastructure, high definition (HD) television equipment and systems, multimedia file format, broadcasting, and various screen resolutions.
- Knowledge of electronics and computing logic, diagnosis, and address/repair production engineering.
- Ability to provide cabling and wireless specifications, documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, wiring diagrams or specifications to inform others about how devices, parts, equipment or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained or used.
- Ability to review production and engineering procedures and recommend improvements, including the planning and equipment normalization process and maintenance/repair workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Certification, or 10 years of experience designing, and installing commercial and professional AV systems.
Licenses and Certifications:
- A Valid driver’s license (required) and evidence of a good driving record.
- Comptia Network+ certification, or three (3) years of equivalent experience and training in troubleshooting complex network integration between SAN, LAN interfacing with College’s network infrastructure.
- Basic video technology experience required for installations, routing configurations and component repair required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium to heavy objects weighing up to 50lbs with assistance, as well as squat, walk, climb (stairs and ladders), bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, grasp, reach, pull and engage in repetitive motions.
Work Environment:
- Work is typically performed in a studio (indoors); however, some duties may be performed in the field (outdoors) with exposure to various types of weather, noise levels, voltage and cable wires.
Salary Range: $74,445 - $119,091 (annually). Initial salary placement is based upon candidate education, experience, and internal equity. New hires are typically placed between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
